SSE Weekly Colloquium |Visual Computing on Campus

Abstract:

Vision is our dominant sense, and visual computing is one of the most active fields in artificial intelligence research. In this talk, I will introduce you to the various visual computing concepts, and show you some of our latest progress in the field, especially the applications to improve our campus life at CUHKSZ. These include: first, an intelligent video editing system that can automatically generate video lectures from multiple video sources to improve your online learning experience; second, a live virtual touring system that allows you to visit our campus in real time through others’ eyes but at your own free will; and finally, a set of technologies deployed in the autonomous driving cars cruising through our campus.

 

About the Speaker:

Rui Huang received his B.Sc. degree from Peking University in 1999, M.Eng. from The Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2002, and Ph.D. from Rutgers University in 2008. He was a postdoctoral researcher at Rutgers University before joining Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China in 2010. From 2012 to 2016, he was a researcher at NEC Laboratories China. He is now an Associate Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. He has been involved in various research topics, including subspace analysis, deformable models, probabilistic graphical models, and their applications in computer vision, pattern recognition, and medical image analysis. He has authored over 80 papers in related areas and has been the principal investigator of various research grants. His current research interests include computer vision and machine learning for surveillance and robots.
